House of Sakinah is run by a dedicated team of women.
Volunteering with Flying Doctors service when she first got married to a doctor and stationed at Broken Hill, she has continued to support and help individuals and families. Firdousi was among the first Muslim women to get access to the detention centre in Villawood. There she helped refugee families, giving simple things like a phone card and food to later helping these families by providing them with furniture and other necessities when they were placed within the community. When she was approached to volunteer her services for the Women Support Centre project, she willingly agreed, and has been assisting women who come to the centre running from domestic violence or merely need some advice and referrals.
Najia has been coordinator of the Women Support Centre since 2013 where she operates and oversees many organisational and management tasks. Throughout her life she has been a part of many additional organisations where she takes on roles of mediating, organising, and serving communities in multiple ways. She has a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and further has a diploma in counselling. Najia also has completed a course through ISRA in Clinical Pastoral Education in Islamic chaplaincy which has further helped in dealing with clients’ issues.
Sumera is educated through her Master in English Literature from Punjab University in Lahore, Pakistan. Further, she has a Certificate in Administration courses and accounting software MYOB and an Advanced diploma in Accounting. Her experience has extended to working in Roads and Traffic Authority as an Accounts Officer and in a Tax Accounting firm. Sumera began as a volunteer in House of Sakinah in 2013 assisting with admin work and giving Quran tajweed classes as a Student Certified Tajweed teacher. In 2017, she had put her hand up for the position to work 5 days a week. Since then she has handled all matters related to accounts and administration, dealt with community engagements and interagency networking, event management and is managing Facebook and Instagram.
Aaliya has been working for over 2 years and she is incharge of the School Breakfast Program. She has helped in the organisation of the Annual Fundraising event and has provided invaluable support at the office with technical support. She organised exercise classes for the ladies.
Asima has been with House of Sakinah for a number of years. She helps in organising events, including the monthly Sakinah for Seniors events. She assists our clients with their daily needs, and has helped out in many emergency situations.
She has an Accounting qualification. She assists in keeping HOS accounts in order and makes sure that all transactions are recorded in Quickbooks.
Baseerah works in admin and marketing for House of Sakinah. Her first project with the organisation has been with the 2020 Webinar where she worked on marketing through designing flyers and banners, and assisting in organising the webinar. She is now Marketing Assistant and focuses on updating House of Sakinah’s social media and website.
She has extensive experience of working in the Community Sector in Sydney. She has been providing training to progress HOS daily operations for a few months. She is also supporting us in official policies and procedures implementation.
